Find the side length (in yards) of an area given in square yards. Also calculates perimeter for fencing, edging, and border estimation.
The Square Yard to Yard Calculator is a tool used to quickly calculate measurements, conversions, and estimates so you can plan materials and project decisions with confidence.
Side = √(Area in yd²). For 225 yd²: √225 = 15 yards per side. Perimeter = 4 × 15 = 60 yards of fencing.
Unknown side = Area ÷ Known side. If the area is 200 yd² and one side is 10 yd: 200 ÷ 10 = 20 yards for the other side.
Square: 4 × side. Rectangle: 2 × (L + W). For 200 yd² at 10 × 20: perimeter = 2(10+20) = 60 yards = 180 feet of fencing.
| Area (yd²) | Side (yd) | Side (ft) | Perimeter (yd) |

Take the square root for a square shape. For a rectangle, divide area by one known side.
A yard = 3 feet (length). A square yard = 9 sq ft (area). Different unit types.
Square: 4 × √area. For 100 yd²: 4 × 10 = 40 yards of fencing.
Side = √Area for squares. Side = Area ÷ other side for rectangles.
